Information statement
This page is Contour's information statement to work seekers. Under the Queensland Private Employment Agents (Code of Conduct) Regulation 2015 (made under the Private Employment Agents Act 2005), we must give you this statement before we provide you with any service. If anything here is unclear, email support@contour-au.com and we will explain it.
In this page, "work seeker" means any designer using Contour to find remote landscape design work. Queensland private employment agents are not required to hold a licence, but we must comply with the Code, and we may face proceedings if we do not.
1. We will not charge you a fee to find work
This is the most important protection in the Code. Contour will never:
- charge or accept a fee from you as a condition of finding or offering you work;
- demand or receive a finder's fee from you;
- charge you to register, to create a profile, or to apply for projects;
- require you to buy goods or services, or to use a supplier we nominate, in order to get or keep a placement.
The only money Contour ever takes is a commission deducted from payment for work you have actually completed and that the client has approved: Bronze 20%, Silver 15%, Gold 10%, Diamond 5%. Your tier improves as you complete jobs, which lowers your commission. If you complete no work, you pay nothing. The commission rate that applies is shown to you before you accept a job.
2. We will act honestly, fairly and professionally
We will deal with you honestly and fairly, exercise reasonable skill and care, and comply with the Commonwealth and Queensland laws that apply to our services — including anti-discrimination, work health and safety, privacy and industrial relations laws. We will not knowingly refer you to work in conditions that breach an applicable industrial instrument or workplace law.
3. Your privacy is protected
We will not disclose your identity or your personal details to a client or anyone else without your permission. On Contour you control this by choosing to apply: a client only sees your profile, tier and quote once you submit an application. Your email address and phone number are never shared, and all project communication stays in the in-platform thread. See our Privacy Policy.
4. Your right to information within 7 days
If you ask us for information about a service we have provided to you, we will give it to you within 7 days. That includes:
- the reasons you were not referred to a particular project or vacancy;
- details of a placement we arranged for you, and its terms;
- a copy of the information we hold about you in our work seeker register.
Send these requests to support@contour-au.com.
5. Your career development is preserved
We will not act in a way that unreasonably damages your ability to develop your career. We will not prevent you from working directly for a client after an engagement ends, and we do not impose exclusivity on you — you are free to use other platforms and to take work outside Contour. Your reviews and completed-job history belong to your professional record.
6. Your right to work in Australia
We will not refer you to work that you are not legally entitled to perform in Australia. You must tell us accurately about your entitlement to work, and we may ask you to confirm it.
7. Records we keep
As required by the Code, we maintain a work seeker register, an employer register and a placement register. These record who is looking for work, the clients we deal with, and the placements made. You may request the information we hold about you in these registers at any time.
8. You are an independent contractor
Contour is a marketplace, not your employer. When you take a project you contract directly with the client as an independent contractor. You control how and when you do the work, you are responsible for your own ABN, tax, GST where applicable, insurances and any professional registration your work requires, and you may need to arrange your own superannuation. Nothing on Contour creates an employment relationship between you and Contour.
9. Payment protection
Before you start, the client funds the full project amount into escrow, so the money is confirmed to exist before you begin drawing. You submit your work for approval when it is done. Payment is released to you when the client approves it, less your tier commission. Escrow cannot be released without the client's approval, and we will not release it back to a client after it has been paid to you.
10. Complaints and where to get help
Raise any concern with us first at support@contour-au.com and we will respond. You do not need to use us to resolve it — you can also contact:
- Office of Industrial Relations (Queensland) — enforces the Private Employment Agents Code of Conduct: oir.qld.gov.au
- Fair Work Ombudsman — workplace rights and pay: fairwork.gov.au
- Office of the Australian Information Commissioner — privacy: oaic.gov.au
- Consumer affairs in your state — QLD Office of Fair Trading, Consumer Affairs Victoria, or NSW Fair Trading.
Making a complaint will never affect how we treat your applications or your standing on the platform.
Please have this reviewed by a lawyer
These pages are a good-faith starting point drafted for Contour's business model, not legal advice. Before trading you should have an Australian legal practitioner review them against the Australian Consumer Law, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Queensland Private Employment Agents (Code of Conduct) Regulation 2015 and equivalent Victorian and New South Wales obligations.
